We conducted a joint study with the streaming service "Zvuk"

The respondents were men and women aged 25-45 who listen to music through streaming services without special equipment, do not have a musical education and, as a rule, do not have certain musical preferences. The sample consisted of 25 people.

Respondents were alternately allowed to listen to tracks recorded in FLAC and in MP3 format. Testing was carried out blindly on the example of three different music services. It was proposed to listen to music tracks in the genres of rock (The Killers, Flesh And Bone), pop (Daft Punk, Give Life Back to Music) and electronic music (James Blake, The Wilhelm Scream). Each song was played for 1 minute.

In parallel, we recorded the vegetative reactions of the respondents using a bio-bracelet, which allows us to assess the dynamics of a person's emotional state at the time of listening.

In each genre block, the same compositions were played, but with different sound quality, namely HiFi tracks from Zvuk and MP3 from two other services. After each block, the moderator filled out a short interview questionnaire based on the respondent's words. Then a final interview was conducted with an assessment of the perception of the tracks listened to.

“The data obtained allowed us to fully and accurately assess the sign of emotions and the strength of emotional involvement in listening. Our perception is undulating, if regular emotional bursts of large amplitude are observed throughout the track against the background of positive emotions, then emotions associated with boredom and the state of falling asleep are excluded, and therefore, the respondents feel more joy and satisfaction, which we observed when listening to tracks of different genres in HiFi quality from Sound. The study also showed that the quality of the track fundamentally affects the favorable psychotherapeutic effect of music, namely relaxation through an emotional experience,” Marina Koroleva, Candidate of Biological and Medical Sciences, Leading Researcher at Neurotrend JSC, shared her results.
